Here is a free alternative, with fullscreen/touchscreen support for Nokia 5800:

It only supports plain text and FB2 - that means removing DRM (illegal in quite a few countries) and converting (which needs additional software). Still I welcome it.

Dear All, has anyone checked if the virtual keyboard solution works (as suggested by an earlier RickNET post)? I saw the description of it on a website, and they say that it should do fine with v3 applications on v5 devices with touchscreen, because even though v3 apps do not process touchscreen inputs, the virtual keyboard "wraps" the touch inputs so that they appear as if they were actual keys pressed inputs. That would be great!
Another possible solution might be MagicKey, an application that remaps keys, so that when the user presses, say, the volume up button, applications see it as if another chosen key had been pressed (one among those used by mobireader for v3), and you may have different maps for different apps.
If anyone with 5800 device would be willing to try, we would all appreciate it. I am a N78 ebook reader, who is looking forward to migrating to 5800 xpressmusic, provided that the basic condition of being able to read books is met. And, with all the defects and the lack of support, I must say I like mobireader and I would like to continue using it. Bye.

It would be better if there was a version of Mobi Reader with touch-screen support for symbian but the work around is not so bad:
1. Install mobireader.series60.3.sis on Nokia 5800 and continue the install even when it warns the software is not compatible.
2. After Mobi Reader is installed and running on your phone, select Options > Settings > At startup, open: Library (not book!)
3. Open one of the demo books. You can scroll forward and backward through the book using the Volume keys of the Nokia 5800. You can turn the phone sideways to see more text on the page.
4. Now if you want to view Fullscreen for even more text visible per page, that is where it gets tricky. If you have a book open and you select Options > View > Fullscreen, you will loose the navigation buttons and the book fills the page. You can still use the Volume buttons, but the only way to close the program book is the Red button on the Nokia.
5. If you did not do #2, you are really stuck -- Mobi Reader will always open the same book in Full screen with no way to choose a different book or change the settings. You will have to remove Mobi Reader from the phone and re-install.
6. However if you did #2, when you start Mobi Reader again, you will see the Library list, not the book you were reading before. It is true that ALL the books will now be in Full Screen and I do not see a way to un-do that without a remove and re-install. But, Mobi Reader does appear to remember your place if you had previously been reading a book, and you can switch books by ending the program and re-starting if you have done #2.
I have not tried this with any downloaded books, only the demo books. But it seemed worth posting.

Hi. I also have a Nokia 5800 XM, and I would love to have a mobipocket e-book reader for Symbian 60 5th edition. It should be great if we could use the touch screen abilities to turn the page with the finger, to change chapter, etc.

So? are you going to get the reader working properly for the 5800?

Since mobipocket seems to be a dead format, what are the options?
Can I convert my e-books in a readable format (like pdf)?
Are there any e-readers for the S60v5 available that can read the Palm-Format of the mobipocket e-books?
What are the other alternatives to mobipocket? (I don't consider Amazon.com as alternative)
Best regards

That depends which country you live in. If you live in a country where removing DRM under specific rules are legal you can remove DRM and convert your Mobipocket books into PDF or ePUB.
If you live in a country where removing DRM is illegal I suggest you vote Pirate Party next election.
Martin.

Even PDFs can contain DRM - so there should be an option to convert these files into pdfs, shouldn't it?
Since I bought books via mobipocket, I am the legal owner of this (now almost useless) files/books.

No! Pdf usually use Adobe Digital Editions as DRM while Mobipocket use well Mobipocket DRM. BTW: Mobipocket DRM is about the easiest to remove and a poll over Mobileread showed that this is the main reason for still buying Mobipockt books.
